Game Play and Scoring

Objective

Rubber Bridge is played by two competing pairs. The goal is to win a "Rubber" by winning two games. A game is won by scoring 100 points "below the line" through successful trick bidding.

How to Play

Players are dealt 13 cards each. The game consists of an auction (bidding) phase followed by the play of the hand.

  • The Auction: Players bid the number of tricks over 6 they expect to win and the trump suit.
  • The Play: The "Declarer" tries to win the number of tricks bid. Their partner's hand (the "Dummy") is placed face-up on the table.

Scoring

The scorecard is divided by a horizontal line.

  • Below the Line: Points for trick bids won (e.g., 20/30 pts per trick). 100 pts wins a Game.
  • Above the Line: Overtricks, honors, and penalties for defeated contracts.
