Game Play and Scoring

Objective

Be the first team to reach the target score (usually 21). Points are scored by tossing horseshoes closer to the stake than your opponent.

Innings

In each inning, both teams toss exactly two shoes. This app uses "cancellation scoring," where only one team can score points per inning.

Scoring

  • Ringers (3 pts): The shoe must completely encircle the stake.
  • Closest Shoe (1 pt): Any shoe within 6 inches of the stake that is closer than the opponent's best shoe.

Cancellation Rule

Equal ringers cancel out. For example, if Team A tosses two ringers and Team B tosses one, Team A scores 3 points (one ringer). If ringers are tied, only the closest non-ringer shoe can score.
